Mario Košik - conductor [SK]

Slovak conductor. Mario Košik’s first contact with the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra (SOSR) goes back to the time of his university studies at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava. During several seasons he cooperated as a conductor with the Brno State Philharmonic, Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra in Olomouc, Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra in Ostrava, Philharmonic Orchestra in Pilsen, West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra, Prague Chamber Philharmonic and FOK Chamber Orchestra. In 2002 - 2006 he staged four original ballet pieces in the Slovak National Theatre and in 2006 he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra. With SOSR he regularly premieres works of Slovak as well as foreign composers such as P. Zagar, J. Iršai, J. Podprocký, Ľ. Čekovská, C. Franck, C. Nielsen and A. Glazunov.  Within the SOSR’s concert seasons he enlarged the repertoire by including works of composers such as C. Franck, A. Roussel, A. Glazunov, C. Nielsen, P. Glass or A. Ginastera. He has premiered the works of Slovak authors such as P. Zagar, J. Iršai, J. Podprocký, Ľ. Čekovská and many more. Mario Košik is a frequent guest of foreign symphony ensembles based in Poland, South Korea and Spain. He cooperated also with the Athens State Orchestra, the Sofia National Philharmonic, the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra in the USA, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra in Israel, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma in Italy and with the NHK Ensemble Tokio. In 2016 he led the SOSR on tour in Germany and in China. In the past year he accepted the invitation of Orchéstra de Monte Carlo and appeared as a guest conductor at their concerts in Japan. In 2017 he cooperated with the Polish ensemble Baltic Neopolis Orchestra and in November 2017 he will present himself at the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra.
